What the classifications mean

Essential — Foundational protection essentially every eligible user should use.

Recommended — Meaningful protection recommended for most users, with usability, recovery, or accessibility considerations.

Optional — Additional protection that can have recovery, availability, or self-lockout consequences if mismanaged.

High-Risk Protection — Specialized protection for people facing elevated or sophisticated targeted threats. Available in the guide, outside the standard review.
