Find My iPhone

iPhone Device & Theft Protection

Essential

Turn on Find My iPhone, Find My network, and Send Last Location.

What this setting does

Find My iPhone helps you locate, lock, or remotely erase a lost or stolen iPhone. Turning it on also enables Activation Lock, which prevents someone else from activating and using the device without your Apple Account credentials, even after the iPhone has been erased.

Important notes

Find My must be turned on before the iPhone is lost or stolen. Apple also recommends turning on Find My network, which can help locate supported devices when they are offline, and Send Last Location, which automatically sends the iPhone’s location to Apple when the battery becomes critically low.

If the iPhone is lost or stolen, Find My can be used to mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device with its passcode and can display contact information while suspending certain services.

Activation Lock turns on automatically with Find My. Your Apple Account password is required before Find My can be turned off, the device erased, or the device reactivated for another user.
