Stolen Device Protection

iPhone Device & Theft Protection

Essential

Turn on Stolen Device Protection. For stronger protection, consider requiring the Security Delay at all times.

What this setting does

Stolen Device Protection helps prevent someone who has stolen your iPhone and knows its passcode from taking over your Apple Account or making critical security changes. For sensitive actions, it requires Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback, and some account changes also require a Security Delay before they can be completed.

Important notes

Stolen Device Protection requires a device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, two-factor authentication, Find My, and the required Location Services settings. These protections must already be configured before Stolen Device Protection can be enabled.

By default, the additional protections are required when the iPhone is away from familiar locations such as home or work. You can instead choose Always under Require Security Delay so the stronger requirements apply regardless of location.

Security-sensitive actions protected by Stolen Device Protection include changing the Apple Account password, signing out of the Apple Account, changing the device passcode, modifying recovery settings, adding or removing Face ID or Touch ID, and turning off Stolen Device Protection.

Find My cannot be turned off while Stolen Device Protection is enabled.
